- Be involved in a dynamic and internationally recognised organisation.
- City based location working within a motivated and flexible team environment.
**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to:
- Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it.
- Protect the Antarctic environment.
- Understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system.
- Undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.
The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees our operations in Antarctica - supporting people in our year-round research stations and remote field bases. The branch oversees air and sea transport (and the contracts to manage Australia’s icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina and Aviation capabilities) to transport expeditioners south and enable them to travel around Antarctica. We have staff with diverse skills, located primarily in Tasmania, in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island.
The Maritime Logistics Section is a key element of the branch and is responsible for the effective delivery of Antarctic and sub-Antarctic maritime operations, including marine science activities, within the Australian Antarctic Program. Primarily this relates to operational planning and management of Australia’s icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina, but will also include other ships the AAD may charter. The Section is also responsible for managing the small watercraft fleet used in support of the AADs maritime operations, including management and operations of the AAD’s domestic commercial vessel fleet.
**The Job**
Key duties will include, but are not limited to:

- Oversee the Maritime Logistics Section’s governance, reporting requirements and adherence to relevant AAD, Departmental and external frameworks/requirements.
- Maintenance of the Maritime Logistics Section budgets and ongoing management of the Sections financial position, including provision of regular reporting to Section management.
- Oversee and/co-ordinate the gathering and analysing of information from diverse sources to develop, review and update key operational documentation which includes Safety Management Systems (SMS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Risk Assessments, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), business continuity plans and training manuals.
- Ensuring appropriate physical and electronic records management standards are adhered to by the Maritime Logistics Section, and;
- Co-ordinate the Section’s recruitment processes, including annual expeditioner recruitment processes.
- Lead and/or co-ordinate the implementation of Government policies on behalf of the AAD with direction from the Director, Maritime Logistics.
**What you'll gain from the experience**
You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the planning, implementation and at-sea management and support the AAD provides to its Antarctic and sub-Antarctic maritime operations. The role will also allow you to further enhance your stakeholder engagement, procurement, contractor management, program co-ordination and leadership capabilities.
**What we are looking for**
- A collaborative mindset, with demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong professional relationships with staff and external stakeholders to positively influence the achievement of results in a complex and operationally diverse environment.
- Demonstrated experience in Government procurement processes and systems, including large scale, high value procurement processes.
- Proven experience in the management and/or administration of government service agreements and contracts.
- Demonstrated experience in government finance and records management processes and systems.
