Caregiver

Home Instead is a non medical provider of companionship, personal assistance, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, shopping, errands and incidental transportation. All of these services are designed to allow an older adult to stay Home Instead for a longer period of time, wherever they may call home. Each Home Instead office is independently owned and operated. The quality of our services is a reflection of our Care Workers known at Home Instead as CAREGivers. They are carefully selected individuals who are caring, considerate and well trained. Services are provided to clients 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, by CAREGivers to assist with daily living activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
Services provided to clients may include, but are not limited to:

- Assistance with bathing or showering
- Assistance with dressing and personal grooming
- Assistance with managing incontinence
- Assistance with eating and use of utensils
- Assistance with mobility and walking
- Escorting to appointments, shopping or social outings where assistance with mobility is required
- Assistance with communication including arrangement of appointments, organising and collecting mail, correspondence, reading, answering the telephone or door etc

Additional responsibilities of a CAREGiver include:

- Contribute to a positive living climate for the overall quality of life for the client
- Perform other reasonable, related duties as assigned or requested
- Promptly report hours after every shift, or as otherwise arranged,
- Report any significant changes in the clients’ needs or living conditions
- Perform work in accordance with our quality management system and standards whilst proactively

identifying areas for continuous improvement.

CAREGiver Attributes
- CAREGivers are people who are resilient, resourceful, empathetic, competent, creative and most of all compassionate. They are interested in and enthusiastic about working with, and assisting older people with their daily living activities
- No prior certifications or qualifications are necessary. Training is provided to all CAREGivers through an internal training and development program.

CAREGivers must:

- Be reliable, trustworthy and dependable
- Be enthusiastic, and have an interest in working with and assisting older people
- Be able to work independently with clients and contribute to the overall CAREGiver team
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Speak and hear English clearly in person and on the telephone
- Read and write English at an average adult level
- Have a suitable level of fitness to enable home support activities to be delivered and
- Be willing to be trained and learn about the needs of our clients in order to effectively assist them.

It is desirable but not essential that CAREGivers also have:

- Prior experience in caring for people
- A valid Drivers License and reliable source of transport (ie a suitable vehicle that is registered, insured and roadworthy)
- Access to a mobile telephone.

Mandatory and Best Practice Training Requirements
- Attend the Orientation, Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) and Technology training courses prior to

undertaking your first shift.
- Successfully complete the web based modules (Welcome Home, Culture Module, WH&S & Infection Control) (online) and assessments in the Empower LMS within 14 days of training
- Complete The ACE Program (Foundations, Intermediate and Advanced) CAREGiver online training

courses, including successfully completing all assessments, in the Empower LMS within 12 months of employment.

Special Conditions
- All applicants must be an Australian citizen or a Permanent resident of Australia.
- All offers of employment are conditional upon presentation of a valid Police Certificate.
