THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a Clinical Research Assistant role covering research and administrative activities related to two ongoing clinical studies conducted in the Clinical Insulin Resistance Group.

One is a randomised clinical trial titled: “Personalised Medicine in Prediabetes - Towards Preventing Diabetes in Individuals at Risk” (PREDICT). The intervention applied in the study combines a common medication used to treat type 2 diabetes with one of two different types of diet.

The second study is an observational study titled “Reverse engineering insulin secretion in health and disease”, where people with elevated blood glucose will undergo a modified glucose challenge test before and after intervention with either bariatric surgery or diabetes medication.

The role includes working closely with a team of investigators, nurses, dietitians and doctors towards achieving the studies goals. The position includes working with study participants, providing primary laboratory and administrative support.

**Salary**: Between $67,461 - $71,278 (dependent on experience)

Employment Type: 1-year fixed term, fulltime role with the view to extend for a further year

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Key responsibilities include: _
- Communicate with study participants replying to advertisements / social media campaigns seeking to volunteer to the study.
- Explain the nature of the studies and what involvement in the study entail to potential study participants over the phone
- Interview/screen potential study participants over the phone
- Enter and maintain data in electronic databases (REDCap) and paper records
- Take measurements - blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, waist & hip circumferences, bioelectrical impedance analysis (Tanita)
- Set up study consumables in preparation for study visits
- Set up the equipment, including warming up and calibrating (e.g. centrifuges, water bath, indirect calorimeter, BodPod)
- Operate the study equipment/tools and collect data, including packing up, cleaning and maintaining the equipment after studies
- Prepare packs and kits for collection and return of sensors and specimen
- Escort study participants to scans at St Vincent’s Hospital
- Process and store biological specimen collected
- Complete the study paperwork/visit sheets
- Coordinate team meetings and discussions, maintain minutes

ABOUT YOU
- The key skills and experience include: _
- Undergraduate degree in relevant tertiary education, for example, health sciences, nursing, medical sciences
- Previous similar work experience in clinical research settings
- Excellent organisational capacity
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team
- Experience in database management
- Superior skills in Microsoft Office
- High motivation and commitment to achieve scientific goals
- Excellent time management
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to carry out high quality work consistently
