Head of Risk and Compliance

As the Head of Risk and Compliance, you will be at the forefront of safeguarding our organisation by ensuring robust governance and adherence to regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for continuing to shape and support implementation of our Risk and Compliance strategy, leading a team of skilled professionals, and providing strategic guidance to senior executives and the Board. Your role will be instrumental in enhancing our risk culture, managing material risks, and delivering high-quality risk and compliance advice to support our business objectives. We operate in a complex and evolving regulatory environment and are therefore looking for people with extensive financial services and life insurance experience.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Risk and Compliance Strategy and Uplift**
- Continue to drive the development and maturity of the 3 lines of defence model, aligning with company strategy to drive maturity in Risk and Compliance management and culture.
- Develop and maintain risk appetite settings, and measure and report on risk metrics and operation within tolerance, providing independent oversight on risk and compliance management.
- Instil and maintain a strong risk culture and use your strong influencing and business partnering skills to foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Contribute to business strategy and planning, and identification and management of strategic risks, as a member of the leadership team.

**Risk Management and Oversight**
- Continue to develop, maintain, and monitor adherence to, policies and frameworks to support risk management and controls assurance, including the Line 2 assurance and monitoring program.
- Provide check and challenge to the first line teams, oversight and review as part of the monitoring plan, and training and support for consistency and uplift as appropriate.
- Lead initiatives to enhance risk governance, identification and assessment of current and emerging risks, and risk mitigation.
- Report on RAS and enterprise risk metrics to senior management and the Board, providing recommendations where deficiencies are identified and advice on emerging risks.

**Compliance Management and Oversight**
- Develop and maintain policies and frameworks to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the Compliance Obligations Register, and monitor and provide advice on compliance with regulatory changes.
- Manage incident and breach assessment and reporting, and monitor compliance with remediation and rectification.
- Address privacy matters, conflicts of interest, and compliance with anti-money laundering requirements.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- **Experience**: 15+ years in risk and compliance within financial services, with a minimum of 7 years in the life insurance sector.
- **Education**: Relevant tertiary qualifications.
- **Expertise**: Advanced understanding of financial services regulators and a proven ability to provide strategic risk advisory support.
- **Leadership**: Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing and mentoring a team.
- **Skills**: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver under pressure.
- **Communication**: Exceptional communication and influencing skills at executive and board levels.
- **Attitude**: Proactive, resilient, and commercial with a strong ability to navigate complex matters and make informed decisions.
