Position Summary:
Illumina, Inc. is seeking an Associate Director of Medical Affairs in AsiaPac, Middle East, Africa (AMEA) with additional responsibility for China region with a strong background in clinical genomics of population screening, newborn screening, cancer diagnostics, hereditary disease, reproductive genetics, and precision medicine. This role will be responsible for developing and executing strategies of Illumina’s medical affairs team in the AMEA region. This role will contribute expertise in clinical genomics as related to screening and diagnostics, clinical genomics research, next-generation DNA sequencing and clinical variant interpretation, establishing clinical genomics testing infrastructure, and functional leadership in the planning, development, and commercialization of new products from Illumina in population screening, oncology, hereditary disease, reproductive genetics, infectious diseases, and executing a best-in-class medical affairs function for the AMEA region. An important component of this role is engaging with pharma to partner on building a genomics-enabled precision medicine ecosystem in AMEA for oncology, reproductive genetics, and rare disease.

This position is part of Illumina’s Global Medical Affairs organization, reporting to a Regional Head of Medical Affairs in the AMEA region. This role will interact with Illumina AMEA region cross-functional teams (Marketing, Sales, Regulatory and Clinical Affairs, Government Affairs) to ensure alignment with corporate goals and objectives. This role will pursue strategic engagement of top KOLs, centers of excellence, and professional societies. This role will be responsible for strategically developing highly visible research collaborations with prominent key opinion leaders and institutions in the AMEA region to drive further adoption of next-generation sequencing and clinical genomics in healthcare. This role will provide support for external partnerships, including with pharma, that complement Illumina’s internal capabilities and business priorities.

Responsibilities:

- Develop and execute national medical affairs strategies for population screening, newborn sequencing, oncology, reproductive genetics, hereditary diseases, and infectious diseases addressing the needs of the AMEA & China region supporting the adoption and reimbursement of Illumina based sequencing platforms and clinical tests including country-specific plans as needed.
- Develop and execute plans in alignment with Global and AMEA/China medical affairs strategy as well as in-country market access and commercial strategies.
- Cultivate relationships with local/national/regional thought leaders in population screening, cancer diagnostics, hereditary disease, reproductive genetics, and precision medicine.
- Provide medical affairs support for Illumina technology development and validation, including those specific to in vitro diagnostic tests and strategic partner assays.
- Act as primary contact for in-country investigators interested in developing and performing research or other studies with Illumina’s commercially available assays
- Provide medical affairs support for regional and country scientific advisory boards
- Provide medical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, and healthcare provider setting in both group and one-on-one situations.
- Provide scientific and medical updates/presentations for country reimbursement discussions.
- Provide medical affairs support at medical and scientific congresses in the AMEA in coordination with the regional head of medical affairs.
- Provide medical affairs support for appropriate educational initiatives in AMEA by overseeing the country-specific adaptation of Illumina peer-to-peer medical education materials.
- Management of in-region Medical Science Liaisons, as needed.
