In context of the Victorian Royal Commission into Mental Health recommendations, putting children, young people and families at the centre of their healthcare, focus is on improving the cultural safety and responsiveness of mainstream health services. To support this, Koori Mental Health Liaison Officer positions have been funded across Victorian Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Services. These roles will provide Aboriginal children and young people and their families with focused cultural, social and emotional wellbeing support throughout connection with the health service.

Key features of the role:

- Working within the mental health and wellbeing team, this role will support CAMHWS clinicians to deliver timely, responsive, high quality and culturally safe mental health care.
- Support in building cultural capability of the service to ensure provision of culturally sensitive engagement, assessment and therapeutics.
- Support children, adolescents and their families in engaging with the mental health service through partnering and advocacy
- Liaise and work closely with other services involved in the child and families care.
- Support culturally safe care in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), promoting avenues of continuous shared care, supported transitions, primary and secondary consultations.
- Establishing linkages with Elders, Aboriginal people with lived experience and peer workers with the aim to
- improve the responsiveness and access to mental health services for Aboriginal children, adolescents and their families/ carers
- support the delivery of clinical, cultural and spiritual health journeys
- support the receipt of timely and responsive, high quality and culturally safe mental health care
- facilitate a partnership approach between ACCHOs and mainstream mental health services.

This role will be supported with cultural supervision and cultural support. The role will maintain close liaison with other Statewide Infant, child and youth mental health service KMHLO to share learnings and provide support.

If the successful applicant does not hold the listed required qualification or similar, they will be will be supported to enrol and commence relevant course of study within 6 months of commencement of the position.
