**The Opportunity**:
CSIRO plays a leading role in one of the world’s largest radio astronomy projects: the SKA, which will be co‐hosted by Australia. The SKA telescopes will revolutionise our understanding of the Universe and the laws of fundamental physics. Enabled by cutting‐edge technology, the SKA promises to have a major impact on society, in science and beyond.
The SKA‐Low telescope is being built by SKAO at the Observatory on Wajarri Yamaji country in Western Australia. CSIRO’s world‐class Observatory already hosts radio telescopes such as the Australian SKA Pathfinder and the Murchison Widefield Array.
CSIRO’s Site Entity team manages the Observatory on behalf of the nation and is also tasked with the preparation of other facilities to support construction and operation of SKA‐Low: at the Observatory in WA’s Murchison Shire, in Geraldton, and in Perth.
The **Observatory Coordination Manager **has oversight of all activities at Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, the CSIRO Murchison Radio‐astronomy Observatory (the Observatory).
This central coordination role heads a small team engaged in managing the land, engaging with the Traditional Owners, facilitating construction of the SKA-Low radio telescope and ensuring compliance with Statutory and Observatory requirements.
As a key member of the Site Entity’s leadership team, the Observatory Coordination Manager will work closely with other leaders within CSIRO and SKAO, other Observatory tenants, and key stakeholders in government, the Shire of Murchison, and the local community, including Traditional Owners.
The role involves a wide range of skillsets, excellent interpersonal communication skills, leadership and mentoring, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic project environment.
**Your duties will include**:
- Overseeing all site mobilisation queries, providing advice and direction and referring enquirers to relevant people/organisations and ensuring all approvals processes are met. Including as applies to:
- radiofrequency interference,
- health and safety,
- land management, and
- the Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA).
- Developing and leading long-term working relationships with key project stakeholders.
- Acting as a respected and influential voice for the Site Entity in interactions with SKAO, its contractors, CSIRO staff, internal and external specialists, government, the Traditional Owners, and other stakeholder groups.
- Maintaining confidentiality when dealing with personal, commercially sensitive, or culturally sensitive information.
- Assisting the Site Entity Lead in working with CSIRO’s property services team:
- to prioritise and scheduling land management activities
- to assess and prioritise land-related project requests that require a funding allocation.
- Assisting the Site Entity Lead in coordinating interactions between all users of the Observatory site.
- Leading your team in championing adherence to all CSIRO health, safety and environmental standards, Observatory processes, state government requirements, and protection of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage.
- Taking the lead in identifying solutions for potentially conflicting project issues or obligations, liaising with relevant stakeholders and managing dispute resolution.
- Engaging and coordinating the services of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage monitors throughout SKA-Low construction via Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation (WYAC).
- Coordinating, as appropriate, any Heritage related stop-work activities with SKAO’s construction manager, utilising relevant plans, policy and legislation, along with considerable tact and discretion.
- Overseeing development of work plans and the allocation of resources, to achieve outcomes in support of CSIRO’s SKA objectives.
