Behaviour Support Specialist, Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct

The opportunity
- Develop individualised strategies, interventions and plans supporting rehabilitation needs of young people
- Undertake functional behavioural assessments to develop behaviour support plans that meet the specific needs of the young people
The Behaviour Support Specialist will work in a multi-disciplinary team to develop individualised strategies, interventions and plans that are responsive to the needs of young people. They will be assigned a unit within the custodial facility housing a certain number of young people to whom they will deliver these plans including facilitation and co-facilitation of individual and group-based psychosocial and criminogenic programs as required. The Behaviour Support Specialist will be required to give recommendations to various stakeholders including but not limited to Clinicians, Unit Staff and Youth Justice Workers. They will also work on rostered shifts which will include some nights and weekends to facilitate support to the unit staff and have complete insights into behavioural needs of young people.
The Behaviour Support Specialist will provide observations and compile functional behaviour assessment reports including case notes which will lead to positive rehabilitative outcomes for the young people. The Behaviour Support Specialist will also contribute to the capacity building of Youth Justice staff and encourage a positive workplace culture. Training support will be provided to the new team of Behaviour Support Specialists, and they will undertake an induction period after commencing duties at Cherry Creek in which support will be given through the induction framework.
**To be successful in the role, you will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to respond to challenging behaviour needs in an appropriate manner. Experience in specialised care including disability/education/and behaviour support for young people is desired**
