**About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations**

**The Role**
The NSW ACT State Office have offices located in Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle and Orange. Our primary functions include stakeholder engagement, contract management, delivery of the Local Jobs Program and local labour market intelligence gathering. We are also involved in activities such as intergovernmental projects that assist participants to find secure employment, gain new skills, and encourage the uptake and completion of Apprenticeships.
The Skills and Training team, operates under the guidelines of the Apprenticeships and Foundation Skills Division (AFS) which takes a national leadership role in apprenticeships and workforce skills training, developing policies to support the achievement of the highest completion rates possible for those undertaking apprenticeships or training to acquire foundation skills. This includes the development and delivery of apprenticeship, workforce and foundation skills policy.
The division develops and implements programs that encourage the uptake of apprenticeships and VET, and programs aimed at improving literacy and numeracy skills such as The Skills for Education and Employment program (SEE).
The division also supports the vocational education and training system nationally, through the effective management of National Partnership Agreements (NPA), develops IT platforms that support apprenticeships, workforce skills and foundation skills training and development, and regulates providers of apprenticeships, workforce and foundation skills programs to ensure the delivery of high-quality apprenticeships and foundational and workforce skills acquisition.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Support Officer may include:
- Working in the NSW/ACT Skills and Training Team to provide contract management and administrative support for the Skills for Education and Employment program,
- Implementing measures and programs that maximise the effectiveness of labour markets and to support the achievement of the highest completion rates possible for those undertaking apprenticeships across NSW and the ACT. This includes engaging with stakeholders across the State to facilitate skills and employment projects, linking them with contracted service providers and other labour market intermediaries,
- Providing administrative assistance to the team with regards to mailbox management, research and communication,
- Investigating and troubleshooting IT system interface issues and provide guideline support to our contracted providers,
- Assisting with the performance and compliance of contracted service providers for the Skills for Education and Employment program in accordance with contractual and legislative frameworks,
- Investigating and managing moderately complex issues regarding frontline service delivery and provider operations under limited direction,
- Actively participating in planning, project management, decision-making and solution brokering, as required,
- Providing support to management, and the department’s National Office teams, as required.
