Manager, Youth Justice Act Implementation

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the Victorian criminal justice system. Youth Justice is responsible for overseeing services responding to children and young people in the criminal justice system, providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending.
The _Youth Justice Act_, which received Royal Assent on 10 September 2024, provides strong and clear governing legislation for Victoria's Youth Justice system that will keep the community safe and more effectively hold children and young people who offend to account.
The _Youth Justice Act_ includes a full spectrum of responses - from early intervention and diversion initiatives that provide genuine opportunities for children and young people to turn their lives around through to sentencing reforms and intensive community and custodial orders that will reduce offending and improve community safety.
**The opportunity**:
- Full time, fixed term position until 30 June 2027, based in Melbourne.
- VPS Grade 6 role: $138,631 - $185,518 per year plus superannuation.
- Build and lead a team focused on implementing the Youth Justice Act 2024 (YJ Act) and associated youth justice reforms.
- Lead stakeholder consultation, communication and governance for YJ Act implementation across DJCS and partner justice agencies, including Victoria Police, the Children's Court of Victoria, Court Services Victoria, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) and Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) and funded community service providers.
- Provide authoritative advice on the YJ Act reforms, including policy, legal and operational impacts.
- Lead the delivery of high-quality briefings, reports and strategic advice for senior DJCS executives, the DJCS Secretary and Ministers
**To be successful in this role you will have**
- Strong knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government administrative process and exposure to significant or complex programs or policy initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder relationship and people management skills.
- Knowledge of current policy direction, research and issues within Youth Justice, including early diversion/prevention, statutory supervision and rehabilitation.
- Strong conceptual and analytical skills with ability to analyse complex operational, policy and legal issues.
You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
