What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for various roles within the AFP's Cybercrime Coordination and Strategy Team and the Cybercrime Capability Uplift Team.

Cybercrime has been designated one of the AFP and Australian Government’s priority crime threats. Within the AFP’s Cyber Command, Cybercrime Operations plays a key role in national efforts against cybercrime with a focus on:
High end Commonwealth cybercrime investigations;
National coordination of the law enforcement response to cyber threats;
Offshore disruption;
Prevention and support; and
Cyber capability uplift.

AFP Cybercrime Operations has primary responsibility for the investigation of cybercrimes against the Commonwealth Government, critical infrastructure and systems of national significance or those that impact on the whole of Australian economy.

The Cybercrime Coordination and Strategy Team is responsible for the coordination and response to all non-operational requests from key internal and external stakeholders. This includes enquiries on the AFP’s contributions to Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020 and the implementation of the Countering Cybercrime New Policy Initiative (NPI). There have been various changes to the operating environment relating to cybercrime, including significant legislative reform, significant allocation of resources and the development of the National Plan to Combat Cybercrime. The role will deliver on, inform and support a range of activities critical to Cybercrime Operations.

As a team member in the AFP you will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments. It is expected that the successful applicant will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the positions outlined below.

AFP Cyber Command is enhancing enterprise capabilities and the Command’s capacity to counter cybercrime following the Government’s investment through Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020.

The role of the Cybercrime Capability Uplift Team is to provide oversight and management of the delivery of AFP Cyber Command uplift initiatives under the new funding, and Command capability projects. Delivery will be achieved through establishing, leading and coordinating a program of work under the AFP governance framework, delivering project outcomes through a small team, direct management of external contracts, and design and construction of contracts.
