About This Opportunity

As a Casual Tech Assistant, play a key role to ensure all students have the opportunity to sit digital on-campus examinations under optimal exam conditions using a laptop according to University assessment and examination policies and procedures.

Hours of work are based on a rostered shift allocation Monday to Saturday during

examination periods

The duties of this role require a basic level of computer knowledge. Full training will be provided on technical troubleshooting procedures; however, it is expected that Tech Assistants are comfortable operating a computer and performing basic computer navigation tasks.

The duties require an element of physical tasks such as standing for prolonged periods, and in some cases pushing trolleys of laptops between exam rooms. Due to the physical nature of the position, a basic standard of fitness is required. Tech Assistants perform both a technical support and supervisory role.

Key responsibilities will include:
Technical support:
- Setting up and packing down equipment (e.g., starting up laptops, organising power cables, and moving laptop trolleys between exam venues).-
- Following troubleshooting procedures to resolve minor issues on a student’s device.- Recording all technical incidents for record keeping and future analysis.- Following guidance provided by a Senior Tech Assistant where required.- Operating basic AV equipment and computers in examination venues.

Supervisory:
- Marshalling students and directing them to seats.- Attending to student enquiries.- Verifying student identification.- Collecting attendance forms and other paperwork.- Monitoring student conduct during examinations including ensuring students are not in possession of non-permitted materials.- Other duties as reasonably directed by the Chief Supervisor or Senior Administrative Officer, Examinations.

This is a casual position at our Gatton campus.

At HEW level 2, the salary will be $38.60 per hour including casual loading, plus super.
- After sufficient experience as a Tech Assistant, you may be invited to receive additional training as a HEW 3 Senior Tech Assistant with additional responsibilities for coordinating the technical needs of an exam venue and are paid at HEW level 3.1._

About You
- You are not eligible for this role if you are a current coursework student at UQ, or any other institution. Higher Degree Research students are eligible._

We are looking for reliable Tech Assistants to ensure students undertake digital on-campus examinations under optimal conditions according to University assessment and examination policies and procedures. No previous education or experience is required for the role. Staff will receive routine supervision and structured on the job training.

The successful applicant will have:
- Demonstrated interpersonal sensitivity and the ability to deliver high quality customer focused service in a high-pressure environment.-
