Melbourne, Australia AGL Energy Full time

Powering Australian Life.

At AGL, we believe energy makes life better. That’s why we’re passionate about powering the way Australians live, work and move.

Like you, we believe that the world is going through extraordinary challenges. We don’t shy away from the tough questions and we consider the answers carefully. We work in partnership with our customers and communities, and take action to shape a better future for all.

As life changes, we join the change, constantly evolving over 185 years. Today we bring all that know-how to transform how Australians produce, share and consume energy. We’re investing in new ideas, partnerships and infrastructure - renewing and expanding our portfolio of sources and products to help make them more sustainable, reliable, affordable and useful.

We’ll continue to innovate in energy and other essential services to enhance the way Australians live, and to help preserve the world around us for future generations.

About the Role:
The Head of Power Development will lead the Power Development team in developing AGL’s grid-scale renewable and firming technology options through to Final Investment Decision, prior to handing projects over to the Major Projects team for construction. This role will play a key leading part in meeting our targets set out under AGL's Climate Transition Action Plan (CTAP), which will transition AGL’s generation portfolio from thermal assets to renewable energy and storage. We are currently developing a pipeline of projects to meet our targets of +5GW by 2030 and +12GW by 2035.

The Head of Power Development reports into the General Manager, Energy Hubs, and will support the broader Energy Hubs team in evaluating, resourcing and project management of a portfolio of grid scale renewable and firming development options.

What you’ll be doing:

- Build and lead an adaptable, strategic and outcome focused team to deliver the execution ready portfolio of renewable and firming options
- Identify and deliver early, mid-stage and late-stage development (including acquisition), bringing them to Final Investment Decision
- Support the development of fit-for-purpose, light touch, internal processes and documentation to support delivery of Energy Hub ambitions
- Maintain a team mindset that considers the needs of stakeholders, including landowners, neighbours, Governments and regulators in parallel with AGL’s strategic objectives
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to support the strategy and direction, including business case development and commercial analysis, project controls and reporting, portfolio planning, origination and trading, procurement, legal, connections, engineering and operations
- Build a strong strategic and commercial foundation and core capability within the team

About You:
You will be a dynamic and outcome focused leader with a high degree of adaptability, commercial and strategic thinking, as well as advanced communication, interpersonal, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills. Your experience in successfully building and leading multi-disciplined teams operating in the renewable development field, including setting clear goals and visions and supporting professional development will set you up for success.

What you’ll bring to the table:

- A detailed understanding of the Australian Energy Sector and experience in utility scale development processes across different technologies and jurisdictions
- Relevant tertiary qualification(s) in commerce, engineering, law or other relevant disciplines. Post graduate qualifications will be highly regarded
- Experience in successfully building and leading multi disciplined teams operating in a complex and uncertain environment
- Extensive experience in leading complex, bespoke commercial negotiations in a changing policy and regulatory environment
- Strategic problem solving skills, with an aptitude for complex decision making and the ability to manage competing priorities
- The ability to identify the “deal space: and achieve risk-optimised decision making
- Corporate narrative skills to effectively communicate complex issues to senior and executive stakeholders for informed decision making
