Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1997. Also, gender is a genuine occupational qualification under the Anti-Discrimination Act1977 No 48. This position is for female applicants only. We are also looking for applicants that possess a Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

Here at Justice Health NSW, the Aboriginal Health Worker - Female identified will work within the Integrated Care Service (ICS) based in the health centres to increase access to health treatment and prevention services for Aboriginal women, and have a strong focus on the prevention and management of chronic disease with an emphasis on improving the patient journey from custody to community. The Integrated Care Service aims to support and enhance the existing systems to provide an integrated model of care for adult patients in custody and on release into the community with chronic or complex health conditions. Furthermore, ICS is to monitor patients from entry at reception through custody and post release unto the community, ensuring they receive seamless, timely, appropriate and effective health care. The role and responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with delegations, policies, procedures and operations systems of JH&FMHN, and in line with both the NSW Health Code of Conduct and JH&FMHN Code of Conduct.

- Possess the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Recent experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients and their families and knowledge of their local cultural-specific communities and its health services
