**The Role**
The Future Workforce Development & Talent Officer will have a key role in building and sustaining the science and technology workforce in Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).

You will be able to monitor changes in external Science and Technology (S&T) workforces to understand future workforce demands and supply challenges to attract, retain and develop high quality employees. You will evaluate and report DSTG actions against the Brilliant People, Collaborative Culture pillar of the More, together: Defence Science and Technology 2030 Strategy.

You will prepare reports on workforce capability activities, including progressing learning and development initiatives to meet S&T workforce capability planning objectives as well as provide advice and analysis on S&T development.

You will assist in the development and implementation of strategic workforce plans, workforce analysis including workforce sustainability, capability related workforce planning that supports force generation activities and reviews. You will provide support to the Chief Defence Scientist in her role as the Defence S&T Capability Manager on workforce.

In this role there is a need for strong written and verbal communication skills and analytical skills with the ability to develop high quality stakeholder communications.

Some interstate travel will be required.

**About our Team**
The Research Technology and Operations Division (RTOD) is responsible for strategically positioning DSTG to deliver maximum impact for Defence. The Division delivers specialist capabilities to Defence Innovation Science and Technology. The division also develops our highly skilled and collaborative workforce, recognising diversity in partnerships and building a shared culture.

Workforce Capability and Talent (WCT) Branch within RTOD is responsible for building Defence capability through the strategic management of the Defence S&T workforce. WCT ensures there is a strong, diverse pipeline to meet the future workforce demand for Defence science and technology through planning workforce capability, partnering to raise the profile of STEM, engaging with talent pools and developing sustainable talent management strategies. We also lead the implementation of the Brilliant People, Collaborative Culture pillar of the More, Together: Defence Science and Technology Strategy 2030 which focuses on developing a highly skilled and collaborative workforce that recognises diversity in partnerships and builds a shared culture.

Our ideal person will have a proven ability to develop work as part of a team to translate strategic frameworks that turn vision into defined goals, strategies, key initiatives and measure results against the strategy.

You will have skills and attributes to achieve the following:

- Strategic planning identifying needs and determining appropriate courses of action to meet organisational needs, showcasing an understanding of strategy;
- Work as part of a small team to achieve results within defined timeframes;
- Excellent team and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise, collaborate, build and maintain productive relationships within Defence, academia and other government agencies;
- Perform research work and analysis including contribution to the preparation of reports on program activities; and
- Strategic workforce management, public sector management or demonstrated equivalent experience and understanding of the S&T ecosystem in Australia.
