The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Governance Lead to provide a critical role within the Aboriginal Justice Group.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the business unit
The Aboriginal Justice group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community.
The Koori Justice Unit (KJU), within the Aboriginal Justice Group, Department of Justice, and Community Safety, is primarily responsible for coordinating implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement (AJA) across the Victorian Government and justice system. The core role of the KJU is to provide institutional stewardship to deliver improved and equitable justice outcomes for the Aboriginal community, in partnership with key community and government stakeholders.
About the role
As the Governance Lead, you will have a primary responsibility to support the governance mechanisms under the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, including coordination and support of the RAJAC and LAJAC network and Collaborative Working Groups. This role will be responsible for oversight, ensuring sound governance process are upheld across these mechanisms under the AJA.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Attend and represent the KJU at DJCS cross government and stakeholder meetings as required
- Establish and maintain effective procedures and practices to maintain high quality KJU business operations.
- Report on project and activity status including schedules, risks and critical issues on a regular basis.

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and work effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to identify, develop and implement new policies, programs and initiatives.
A qualification in project management, public administration or a related discipline is desirable.

**MANDATORY VACCINATIONS**:
The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
