**About the team**
The Analysis and Insights Division is a dynamic group that supports the Department and its Ministers to drive economic growth and job creation for all Australians. Under the guidance of the Chief Economist, the Division aims to empower the Department to lead the national agenda on industry, science, energy and resources through compelling analysis, insights and advice.
The department has a wide range of programs and as such our work is diverse and interesting. Roles in the Division provide opportunities to work on various matters involving in-depth analysis as well as exposure to high level policy-making.
The Analysis and Insights Division has three branches:
Economic and Industry Analysis Branch
The Branch provides economic and industry analysis, insights and data that informs, influences and enhances policy development within the Department.
Resources and Energy Insights
The Branch produces analysis, forecasts and data on Australia’s resources and energy production and international trade, as it is shaped by geostrategic developments and decarbonisation goals.
Data and Evaluation Branch
The Branch provides data governance and management advice, analytical and reporting services, deliver data projects and drive national spatial data policy outcomes. The branch also provides evaluation services and advice on performance metrics across the Department.
We are looking to fill a number of roles across the Division, with placements based on your demonstrated skills and experience. A merit list may also be created to fill future vacancies that arise across the next year.
We are looking for motivated and experienced Economic Analysts, Data Officers and Evaluators at the EL1 level.
- A background in one or more of the following: economics, industry policy, resources, energy, policy analysis, econometrics, evaluation, research, data analysis or data policy.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts in a high quality briefing.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to build and lead effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including across federal government, state governments, and industry.
- Excellent organisational skills, including balancing short and long term priorities and the ability to be resilient and professional in undertaking sensitive work within tight timeframes.
- A desire to contribute to building a supportive team environment in a diverse workplace through coaching others, providing performance feedback, encouraging career development and working collaboratively and sharing information openly.
- High standards of professional and personal integrity in line with APS Values and APS Code of Conduct and relevant departmental policies.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in economics, econometrics, policy, research, analysis or evaluation are desirable.
**What you will do**:
- For Economic Analyst roles, provide timely and accurate analysis, research and advice, including data analysis, on a range of policy issues
- For Data Officer roles, support the implementation of initiatives and reporting under the department’s Data Strategy to grow a data-driven culture in the department
- For Evaluation roles, lead evaluations on the department’s programs or policies, or provide advice on evaluation approaches.
- Work collaboratively across the Division, the Department and the APS more broadly
- Engage positively and flexibly in meeting the demands of stakeholders, both internal and external to the Department
- Build and maintain networks with government, industry and/or international stakeholders in line with the APS Values and APS Code of Conduct and relevant departmental policies.
**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
