**About the Role**
The OHS Advisor (Chemicals and Radiation) provides high quality advice, guidance and services relating to chemicals, radiation, hazardous waste and scheduled poisons across the Faculty.

This includes providing advice and coordinating use of the University’s online chemical management platform (ChemWatch) to manage chemical inventories. The role also requires use of the University’s online risk management system to manage risk registers, risk assessments, incident reports and investigations, and work area inspections pertaining to chemicals and radiation.

The position works collegially within a team which provides a diverse range of occupational health and safety services across the Faculty of Science.

Responsibilities include:

- Liaise with key stake holders to review, develop, implement and oversee a unified approach to safe chemical and radiation processes across the Faculty by analysing current systems, identifying key requirements for both research and teaching, and implementing consistent best-practice
- Provide policy advice, expertise and oversight relating the chemicals and radiation along with relevant aspects of risk management, emergency preparedness, work area inspections, purchasing, handling, PPE, storage, and disposal. Chemicals used by the Faculty include scheduled poisons, dangerous goods, compressed gases, hazardous substances, hazardous waste, general lab chemicals, and other classifications (collectively referred to as chemicals). Radiation includes open radioactive sources and equipment capable of generating ionising and non-ionising radiation
- Work with Faculty OHS team to prepare for and present evidence relating to chemicals and radiation at OHS audits
- Develop and maintain records, resources and procedures relating to chemicals and radiation

**About You**
You will have awareness of the principles of confidentiality, privacy, and information handling and display excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to work as a member of a team supporting research and teaching. You will possess high-level computer literacy and experience using online resources such as Microsoft 365 including Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Word and have experience working in a chemical and/or biological setting such as a research or teaching laboratory.

You will also have:

- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience
- Knowledge of OHS and environmental Acts, Legislation, Regulations and Codes in Victoria and relevant Australian Standards, particularly relating to chemicals and radiation
- Experience working with and handling chemicals, hazardous waste, radiation and knowledge of scientific methodology and equipment
- OHS specific training and/or substantial experience in chemical management, radiation safety and incident investigations
