An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and committed Carer with Lived Experience to join our** Child Inpatient Unit **as a **_Carer_** Peer Support Worker.** We are specifically seeking an individual with experience in a carer's role who has accessed Child and Youth Mental Health Services, and/or preferably an inpatient mental health unit. This is a part time, 12-month position.
The Child Inpatient Unit (CIPU) is part of Austin Health’s Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS). It services children from metropolitan and regional Victoria, NSW and Tasmania at present. It is one of two Child Units in the state - the other is the OASIS Unit, based at Monash Health.
The Child Unit works closely with children and their carers to achieve positive outcomes in all areas of functioning. We have 12 beds, and are based at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg. Children up to their 13th birthday are admitted for mental health assessment and treatment. These children may be experiencing significant acute and complex emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties and have usually had some outpatient treatment. The team is also supported by Austin School teaching staff who work to keep children connected to their home schools or to help them reconnect to appropriate education pathways.
We are seeking a carer peer worker to work with the team and provide peer support to families and carers of children on the unit, using personal lived experience that includes support within a model of hope and recovery
