Then you could be the perfect General Medicine Physician to join the professionals at Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD). We’re looking for a qualified General Medicine physician who:

- Support the development of General Medicine services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop General Medicine research within the department

The Department of Medicine at Shellharbour Hospital runs on a model of General Medicine with supervision provided by physicians supported by medical ward nurses, allied health care workers, registrars, and junior medical officers. The physician on call for general medicine cares for patients admitted through the emergency department. Outpatients are seen in a variety of clinics at the hospital.

The various physicians at Shellharbour Hospital also have subspecialty expertise Endocrinology, Infectious diseases, Nephrology, and Geriatrics. We are able to provide services such as exercise stress testing, echocardiography (transthoracic and transoesophageal), gastroscopy/colonoscopy, and ambulatory care amongst a number of other subspecialist services.

Training is provided for medical students from the University of Wollongong, as well as accredited training for: junior medical officers, basic physician trainees and advanced trainees in general medicine. There is also support from Wollongong Hospital (tertiary referral hospital, located 20 minutes away from SHH) for all medical and surgical specialties. Shellharbour Hospital is in expansion process during the next 5 years as a response to the increasing growth of the area to a bigger hospital including an ICU, that will offer additional opportunities for General medicine and all its subspecialties.

**Selection Criteria**:
1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and demonstrated subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or equivalent specialist recognition and/or specialist recognition within 6 months.

3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.

5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.

6. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.

7. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.

8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
