**_The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) is seeking to employ an experienced child and youth psychiatrist. This temporary full time position provides the ability to strike an enviable work/life balance on the beautiful South Coast of NSW._**

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Child, Adolescent & Youth Mental Health Service (CAYMHS) for an enthusiastic Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist to join a well-established team, including other C&Y psychiatrist and Registrars / College trainees.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide high quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in acute child and adolescent psychiatry, and there may also be times where cover to the adolescent inpatient unit will be required.

In this role you will be responsible for the provision of high quality specialist psychiatry services to emergency patients, inpatients and out-patients at the relevant Hospital and will consider the role of psychotropic medication, physical health, and legal frameworks in assessment and care provision. This work will not be limited by these frameworks and the service provided will be to the person in their context.

The Psychiatrist will proactively:

- Support the development of psychiatry services
- Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
- Support and develop mental health research within the department

There will be opportunity to lead teams virtually serving consumers in the community and inpatient settings in the local area. The role will involve the use of cutting edge telehealth technology in providing timely access to individualised and holistic assessment and care by expert multidisciplinary clinicians across a geographically dispersed LHD.

The successful applicant will have a leadership role with opportunity to supervise registrars, contributions to therapeutic assessments, intervention and review processes, as well as providing clinical input to a small consultation and liaison component of the service. Participation in the consultant on-call roster is on a pro-rata basis and is supported by a cohesive group of experienced staff specialists. This care will be provided within the scope of practice endorsed by the ISLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).

- developed research support unit that offers staff an extensive range of research support services including: assistance in the development of the research study design, biostatistics support, data analysis, and help writing final research publications, as well assistance with the ethics and governance processes.

**Selection Criteria**

1. Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.

3. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.

4. Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
