Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) manages the Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s relationships with major corporate, institutional, and government clients. We offer a comprehensive suite of capital raising, transaction banking, and market risk management products and services.
The IB&M Strategy function partners with the IB&M Leadership Team to shape and drive the strategic agenda across the business.
**Your Team**:
The IB&M Strategy team is a high-performing group of professionals with diverse backgrounds in management consulting, corporate advisory, and institutional banking. We collaborate closely with senior stakeholders across IB&M’s business lines and support functions to develop strategy across products, geographies, markets, and portfolios.
You will report to the Strategy Executive Director in IB&M.
**Your Responsibilities**:
As a Strategy Associate Director, you will play a key role in shaping IB&M’s strategic direction. You will work alongside your fellow strategy colleagues and with CBA stakeholders to:
- Monitor our internal and external operating environment to identify opportunities and challenges across IB&M, and the CBA Group.
- Lead end-to-end strategy development projects, including problem framing, project scoping, stakeholder engagement, research and analysis, and the delivery of high-quality recommendations to the IB&M Leadership Team.
- Translate strategic intent into actionable priorities and measurable outcomes through clear and insightful performance reporting.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders who contribute to, or are impacted by IB&M’s strategy.
- Contribute to the development of team tools, frameworks, and intellectual property to enhance the team’s strategic capability and efficiency.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture, including the coaching and mentoring of junior team members.
**Your Skills & Experience**:
We’re looking for a strategic thinker with strong analytical and leadership capabilities. You will bring:
- A minimum of 4 years’ experience in business strategy consulting at a major consulting firm or corporate in-house strategy function, with Financial Services exposure.
- Strong financial acumen with a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Proven ability to lead complex strategic initiatives using structured problem-solving and hypothesis-driven analysis.
- Experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders across functions and levels.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distil complex insights into clear, compelling narratives for executive audiences.
- A proactive mindset, strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
**Your Development**:
The IB&M Strategy team offers exposure to high-impact projects and strategic decision-making at the senior levels of the bank. You’ll gain deep insights into the institutional banking landscape, build a broad internal network, and develop a strong platform for career progression within CBA and the Financial Services industry.
