Microbiologist/laboratory Technician

**Job Description**:
SGS is seeking an experienced and dedicated Microbiologist to join our Environmental team under the Industry & Environment division. This role is responsible for managing and growing the microbiological section of the laboratory and ensure that tests are carried according to NATA's ISO17025 requirements and/or client specifications.

**Responsibilities will include, however are not limited to**:

- Manage the testing of swab and air samples for mould using microscopy.
- Manage and conduct analyses of soils, waters and air samples for microbiological contaminants.
- Support the hygiene section in a Lab technician capacity
- Undertake routine analysis preparation and analysis of environmental samples when and if required for Asbestos ID and fibre count.
- Understand and promote SGS’ quality management system and ensure the laboratory QA/QC criteria
- Monitor and report on the progress of work performed.
- Ensure equipment and laboratory is kept clean to avoid contamination and protect the company’s assets
- To assist with microbiological related projects nationally if required.

**Qualifications**:

- Experience in Stereo, PLM and/or PCM microscopy techniques and methods.
- BSc or postgraduate diploma of microbiology, or equivalent industry experience.
- Demonstrable commercial laboratory experience in environmental microbiology, phycology and/or mycology.
- Previous NATA signatory or delegated NATA signatory status
- Previous supervisory experience desirable.
