Supervising Scientist

Manage operations that pertain to laboratory functions including equipment and other asset records and contracts, budget oversight and planning, stocktakes, consumable ordering and HR activities for existing staff and recruitment activities.
Coordinate research projects including research agreements, budgets and invoicing, tracking and milestones and governance requirements including ethics.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Experience in management of laboratory operational matters including asset management and ordering, HR, financial tasks and oversight of contracts.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in in the provision of complex, contemporary public health virology testing, particularly as this applies to molecular virology and molecular epidemiology for notifiable and emerging viral pathogens.
- Ability to provide authoritative advice and coordinate research projects and staff including across all governance and milestone requirements.
- Ability to participate as a senior managing member and a point of reference, aligning team leaders and laboratory staff through clear communication and positive interactions to meet laboratory operational needs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support regulatory activities, ensuring all relevant legislative, administrative and professional standards are met.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a recognised tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in science majoring in Microbiology, Virology or Molecular Biology.
- Experience in a leadership role in a Microbiology or Virology laboratory is highly desired.
- The successful applicant must undertake a mandatory Australian Federal Police security clearance, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.

- The position will be utilised at times to assist FSS in the delivery of a 24-hour, 7-day public health services. All newly appointed staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required and participate in an On-call roster.
