What you'll do

Perform and validate basic, complex and varied haematology/coagulation investigations (including Blood Film Morphology/ Malaria/Kleihauer investigations) and Urine Microscopy consistently and accurately, by maintaining competence in the scientific aspects of the laboratory units.

Develop, implement, maintain and improve supervised services in concert with the Ipswich laboratory manager, the supervisory team, the group laboratory, West Moreton Hospital Health Service district stakeholders and Pathology Queensland stakeholders.

Provide advanced level scientific advice, communication and support to the West Moreton Hospital Health Service district, other clients, laboratory staff and peers relating to Haematology services in line with Pathology Queensland policies and procedures.

Liaise with the Ipswich Laboratory Supervising Scientists for Chemistry & Transfusion to coordinate performance and development overall of the Ipswich Laboratory multi-skilled Health Practitioner team including supervision, training, competency assessments, provision of feedback and continuing education for supervised services.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

At least a tertiary degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.

Membership of a professional scientific association such as AIMS or ANZSBT would be an advantage.

Demonstrated high level of knowledge and skill in the performance of haematology and coagulation investigations in a clinical pathology laboratory.

Significant experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas - training, education, quality or troubleshooting in a haematology laboratory.

Advanced clinical knowledge in Haematology/Coagulation to support laboratory staff and clients.

Ability to supervise and train a team of Health Practitioners in Haematology and Urine Microscopy, complying with the policies of Pathology Queensland and the Department of Health.

Ability to operate and troubleshoot XN3000, ACL Top 300 or similar analysers.

Ability to use or to quickly acquire knowledge of a variety of software systems applicable to supervisory duties including but not limited to a LIS, medical records system, Quality information system, procurement, payroll/HR, safety and Office365.

Detailed understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO15189 certification for Haematology
