**Position Objective**
The Tourism Officer is responsible for supporting efficient service provisions and operations of the
Flinders Shire accredited Visitor Information Centre and museum, known as the Flinders Discovery
Centre (FDC).

**Key Responsibilities**
**_FDC Operations and Promotion_**
- Support the FDC team to undertake operational, financial and administrative tasks, recruit
volunteers and maintain volunteer register
- Provide quality customer service and respond to customer enquiries in a professional
manner, including providing information and booking services on behalf of visitors
- Monitor and review facilities, displays, tourist information, sale items and the museum to
ensure these are compliant to health and safety, presentable to visitors and remain updated
in line with customer expectations
- Assist FDC team with responding to correspondence and requests, daily records of visitor
data, visitor surveys and purchasing stock (as directed)
- Undertake daily duties including cleaning in line with FDC procedures manual, processing
sales transactions and reconciling monies
- Record, distribute and maintain stock of local, regional and state brochure supplies
- Attendance at meetings and events as required and work as rostered applicable to tourism
for the Flinders Shire
**_Marketing and Communication _**
- Improve visitor experience through informative engaging promotion of attractions to assist in
increasing overnight stays within the Shire
- Assist with implementing digital marketing strategies in promotion of the Shire to visitors
- Conduct area promotion and visitor experience with groups as required
- Maintain and update visitor information through digital marketing platforms such as websites,
social media, and YouTube
- Maintain and update listings of events, facilities, attractions on Australian Tourism Data
Warehouse, Trip Advisor and Wikicamps
- Develop and distribute communications to volunteers, businesses and community groups as
required
- Support coordination of centre-based activities and events
- Maintain and update visitor information including a register of attractions, local businesses,
accommodation, operators and services via information sheets, website and hotel/motel
compendiums
- In partnership with FDC team, implement strategies within the marketing and promotion plan
for Flinders Shire
