**The Department
**Position Objective**

The Community Development and Engagement Officer will be responsible for the development,
implementation and review of projects and events across the Community Services Portfolio with the aim to
enhance lifestyle, liveability and resilience within the Flinders Shire. These projects will be in accordance
with Council’s strategic initiatives and plans. The officer will engage with the internal and external
stakeholders including local community members and community organisations to achieve this.

The role will also be required to provide support across all services within the _Community Services and _
- Wellbeing _department, including the Library, Flinders Discovery Centre, Services Australia (Centrelink) and
Community Care, where required.

As a representative of Council, demonstrated professionalism and a commitment to a high level of service
and continuous improvement in the best interest of Council and the Community are essential.

**_Project & Event Management _**:

- Research and collate data and information on health, community wellbeing, sport and
- recreational needs of the community- Plan, initiate and conduct community development programs, events and projects to enhance
- the lifestyle, liveability and resilience within the Flinders Shire.- Work within the wider Community Services team to deliver special events and community
- development projects- Facilitate and manage Council sporting activities aimed at promoting health, fitness and social

wellbeing in partnership with visiting sporting / heath organisations across the Shire
**_Financial Management _**
- Oversee delivery and milestones, budgeting, reporting requirements and compliance in line with

Council’s strategic and operational plans
- Source grant funding opportunities as relevant to upgrading sporting facilities and implementing

healthy lifestyle and wellbeing programs and events, and complete acquittals as required.
- Coordination and implementation of Councils grants, sponsorships and donations programs
- Supporting local community groups with information and resources and advocacy for facility

improvement
**_Communication & Stakeholder Engagement _**
- Act as first point of contact for sporting and community groups within Flinders Shire to assist in

legislative requirements, marketing and promotional opportunities, budgeting and small business
activities to develop sustainable sporting groups
- Support operational planning, risk identification, upskilling and/or engagement of volunteers to

assist in activities
- Supporting Council to engage with the Flinders Shire Community in a meaningful and efficient

manner via communications, marketing and other engagement methods.
- Sourcing and providing information across Flinders Shire relating to grant opportunities,

sponsorship, corporate partnerships and other sustainable options
- Developing and distributing marketing and promotional materials to be utilised through Council’s

communication channels
