Purpose

This volunteer role provides support in raising much needed funds to enable The Salvation Army (TSA) to serve the needs of the local community, whilst providing an environment where customers and volunteers are treated with the dignity and respect reflected in the values and mission of TSA.

Time Commitment:
In shifts of 4-6 hours as agreed with Store Manager

Key Tasks - Activities & Expectations

Processing of stock
- Sorting & lifting
- Pricing
- Hanging and displaying of stock
- Respect that all donations belong to TSA

Customer Service
- Welcoming customers to the store
- Assistance with enquiries and donations
- Providing a good customer experience for shoppers

Sales Counter
- Cash handling, cash register, EFTPOS and point of sale transactions
- Answering the phone
- Referring those in need to other Salvation Army or local services if needed

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Understand and use required PPE (personal protective equipment) when working in the Family Store (eg. gloves, aprons etc.)
- Check PPE is in good order and report issues or concerns to supervisor.

Equipment use & maintenance
- Safe use of all store equipment
- Clean, store and care for equipment so that it is easy to access and remains in good condition.
- Check equipment is in good order before use and report any issues or concerns to line manager.

Maintain a safe and healthy environment
- Monitor and rectify any health and safety concerns within the store and surrounding areas.
- Report any potential health and safety concerns to supervisor
- Complete WHS hazard/incident/accident form

- Acts and represents the organisation in an honest and ethical way
- Good match for the team and TSA values
- Good verbal communication skills
- Well groomed

Qualifications and experience

Experience in retail or customer service is preferred but not essential
- ABOUT THE PROCESS - for successful applicants
- Integrity Checks - Police Check required.
- Forms - Volunteer Registration, Volunteer Agreement, and Role Profile to be completed and signed.
- Training - TSA induction, Childsafe organisation, and other role specific training.
- Covid Vaccinations.
