Position Summary

The Data Governance and Integration Group (DGIG) delivers on a wide variety of important health and

welfare data linkage projects, with the aim of achieving better outcomes and supporting informed policy

decisions by Government for these sectors. This furthers the AIHW's strategic goals of being trusted leaders

in health and welfare data, innovative producers of data sets and a strong strategic partner.

The Merging and Transformation Unit (MATU) is responsible for bringing together integrated data from

multiple sources into cohesive, high-quality datasets for research projects. MATU is also responsible for the

AIHW Data Linkage Transformation project, which aims to strengthen our linkage techniques, processes and

capabilities to ensure timely and high-quality results.

Data integration involves extracting approved content data from a variety of sources, ensuring that the data

is de-identified while still allowing researchers to conduct person-level analysis. Staff in MATU create output

files for researchers based on the ethics approvals for each project. Once prepared, the data is uploaded

into a secure research environment for analysis. The methods used remains the same, whether the content

is being extracted for both infrastructure and bespoke projects.

We are seeking highly driven and detail-oriented Junior Data Integration Specialists with the ability to learn

quickly and work under general guidance, following standard operating procedures with mínimal

supervision.

Under general direction you will:

- Work with a high degree of accuracy and precision to align each extraction with the data specifications

of each project.

- Contribute to information/records management through the prompt and effective filing of relevant

documentation.

Selection Criteria

1. Ability to manipulate and interrogate data sets using a range of software such as SAS,

Python, R or SQL.

2. Ability to accurately follow standard operating procedures to complete data integration

tasks under the direction from supervisors from end-to-end across integration processes.

3. Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise one’s workload and

escalate issues when required.

4. Sound project administration experience, including the ability to maintain accurate

documentation and record-keeping.
