**About the role**:
We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Alcohol and Drug Service.

The Aboriginal Support Worker will work as part of the Alcohol and Drug Service, St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney (SVHNS). This position will be located specifically within Rankin Court Treatment Centre (RCTC) and will be responsible for supporting Aboriginal clients who are engaged with the RCTC Program. This support may include, but not be limited to:

- Identifying and addressing barriers that may be preventing Aboriginal clients from fully accessing the RCTC Program
- Ensuring that RCTC is culturally sensitive, safe and welcoming to Aboriginal people
- Explaining and helping RCTC clients to navigate the RCTC Program
- Providing information on Aboriginal services within the community
- Actively and professionally engage with Aboriginal clients at RCTC

The position will assist the Assertive Community Management (ACM) Program with their Aboriginal clients as required.

The position will assist SVHNS Alcohol and Drug Services and staff in improving culturally sensitive care and pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. The position will be required to build and maintain relationships with a range of Aboriginal workforces and organisations.

- Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
- To be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupation qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as well as an understanding of the health and welfare needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated experience in working constructively with Aboriginal communities and personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with Aboriginal people on sensitive matters.
- Demonstrated understanding of clients with drug and alcohol issues along with an understanding of harm reduction principles, or a willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills, along with adequate computer skills including Microsoft Office and Patient Record Systems.
