Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Shakeel Lab in the Structural Biology Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

Our Laboratory is interested in understanding gene regulation from the lenses of structural biology. The Research Officer will be responsible for driving a project aimed at understanding the process of heterochromatin formation and repair. This project will utilize cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) to determine the structure of multi-protein complexes involved in these processes and use that information to understand the structural basis for the assembly and function of these complexes through combination of biochemistry and biophysics.

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:

- A PhD in biochemistry, biophysics or structural biology
- Experience with epigenetics/chromatin protein complexes
- Experience in expression and purification of multi-protein complexes using insect cell and/or mammalian expression system
- Experience in biochemical and enzymatic assays
- Experience in biophysical methods like SPR and FP
- Demonstrated ability and potential for excellence and productivity in research
- Research experience that has resulted in publications (preprints inclusive)
- Proven interpersonal and collaborative skills in achieving research outcomes

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

- Experience in mass spectrometry techniques
- Experience in cryo-electron microscopy

Terms of Appointment
This position is available for 2 years in a full capacity. Salary is Research Employee (RE) Level A6 ($101,039). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
