**Role Summary**:
The Policy Officer is responsible for contributing towards the achievement of key policy and advocacy objectives through the development of research and policy, facilitating key initiatives, and effective stakeholder engagement. The main focus of the role is to work directly with the General Manager Advocacy and New Zealand and the General Manager to support the delivery of substantial agendas in those portfolios.

This organisation is the leading representative body for its sector in Australia and New Zealand, advocating on behalf of over 200 member organisations across the industry. The members include:
- The operators that keep essential services moving.
- The infrastructure owners, managers, and contractors that ensure a safe and efficient network.
- The suppliers, manufacturers, and consultants that drive innovation, productivity, and efficiency.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Prepare correspondence, research papers, briefing notes, and other materials as required on key policy matters.
- Support the GMs in preparing for and attending committee and working group meetings and completing actions, including supporting the Secretariat function.
- Contribute to developing positions on policy matters.
- Assist with the development and management of the research agenda, including contributing to the development of supporting materials and progressing key recommendations arising from the research.
- Monitor policy and regulatory issues at the federal and state level of relevance to these portfolios.
- Provide analytical and research support that contributes to the strategic priority of a 'productive, safe, and efficient industry'.
- Assist in managing discrete projects that support these portfolios.
- Build and maintain professional relationships and connections with key industry stakeholders.
- Work under general supervision to support policy development and implementation.
- Support stakeholder engagement processes.
- Develop presentations or content for presentations on behalf of GMs.

- **External**: Collaboration with members, particularly in these portfolios, to discuss policy issues and progress subsequent actions. Develop contacts within government to facilitate effective collaboration.
- **Internal**: Work closely across the business as required to provide support to leaders in a timely manner.
**Role Requirements**:
- University qualifications relevant to the role (Law/Social Science/Public Policy/Communications), or comparable experience in a similar role.
- Ability to establish strong working and stakeholder relationships.
- Research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Collaborative focus, with an ability to engage with multiple stakeholders to progress issues.
- Can work flexibly and efficiently, with initiative and drive.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills with proven success in a multi-deadline driven environment.
- Ability to interact with external stakeholders professionally and confidently, including members, industry stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
