About us

As a department our purpose is to help the community prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses the Fire and Rescue Service, disaster management services, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.

QFES is one department with many services, many capabilities and many partners.

Purpose of the role

RFS are bushfire experts, they lead and manage a range of operational and organisational functions that are principally directed in supporting approximately 28,000 volunteers and rural fire brigades who provide fire management, mitigation and response services for rural and semi-rural communities and some urban fringe areas across the state.

Reporting to the Director, Rural Capability Development, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating regional RFS fleet and facilities team members to drive the design, implementation and maintainence of RFS associated lifecycle asset management business processes, artefacts and tools, including facilitating the development of investment programs for the RFS' non-current assets. You will work closely with the Asset Services Directorate and RFS business leads to provide fit for purpose fleet, equipment and built assets which will meet the agency demands both operationally and strategically into the future, and strategically manage the diverse RFS fleet and equipment, building, construction, maintenance and leasing activities across all fleet and property assets to ensure requirements are in line with whole-of-government legislation and achieve value for money in fleet delivery and workplace design and construction.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

- Lead and manage regional RFS Fleet and Facilities team to provide strategic asset management services, advice and guidance that inform the departments asset lifecycle management decisions and its strategic business planning process.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve a contemporary RFS asset management business system that meets the departments accountable officers legislative responsibilities.
- Facilitate the development, prioritisation and approval of the asset investment business cases to support the development of whole of agency asset investment programs and management plans, in conjunction with RFS regional requirements.
- Draft, update and submit for approval, RFS fleet and facilty asset investment programs and management plans in line with whole of government asset planning requirements.
- Manage and coordinate the lifecycle of building and fleet assets data including the preparation of performance reports to inform RFS asset investment and lifecycle management decisions.
- Provide strategic advice and manage the implementation of long-term strategies that minimise risk and maximise value for money outcomes for entire vehicle lifecycle, ensuring all legislative and regulatory requirements are met.
- Build and maintain partnerships and networks with internal and external stakeholders and represent RFS at meetings and forums to consult and negotiate requirements for the delivery of fleet assets, facilties, equipment and services which promotes governance and investment outcomes.
- Manage, prepare and review complex reports, submissions and briefings and ensure accurate and appropriate response to a range of correspondence in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
