**The Department
**Position Objective**
The Governance Manger is responsible for advising senior leaders and elected members, and
coordinating activities in relation to corporate governance, risk, compliance and training
responsibilities and requirements across Council. The Governance Manager is also responsible
for the records management and reception team.

**Key Responsibilities
**_Corporate Governance_**
- Provide a high level of management support to Executive Management Team ensuring
Council has an effective governance framework compliant with legislative and administrative
responsibilities and requirements, which promotes good governance and business excellence
- Develop and maintain corporate governance and legislative compliance frameworks
- Review and maintain Council’s statutory and governance registers
- Corporate and operational planning, organisational performance management & reporting
- Maintain effective administrative procedures and processes to ensure relevant, effective and
timely development and review of Council’s policies, delegations, and internal administrative
controls; including stakeholder engagement and communication to Council, management,
staff and the community as required
- Coordinate and facilitate the Corporate Planning and reporting engagement, collation,
compilation and review of Council’s Corporate and Operational Plans and statutory and/or
operational performance under the direction of the Executive Management Team, ensuring
accuracy and legislative compliance
**_Compliance and Risk _**
- Assist the Director Corporate and Financial Services (DCFS) in maintaining and
continually improving Council’s risk management framework including but not limited to
Councils Business Continuity Plan.
- Coordinate and oversee timely collation, compilation and maintenance of essential risk
management records and documentation, and associated action plans, registers & reports
for corporate management and compliance purposes
- Assist the DCFS in the development and implementation of strategic and business plans
to achieve section goals
- Research, draft and analyse Council Policies to ensure compliance across whole of Council
- Develop, review and assist with implementation of policies and procedures across the
organisation in compliance with legislation and best practice
- Provide a high level of support to ensuring Council has an effective compliance and risk
management framework compliant with legislative responsibilities and requirements,
which promotes good governance and business excellence
- Identify emerging legislative and/or related compliance issues that may impact Council’s
corporate compliance and risk management responsibilities and/or service requirements,
and proactively liaise with DCFS
- Recommend improvements to Council’s policy and procedure framework and service
delivery in response to customer complaints
- Maintain Council’s Policy and Procedure Register, in accordance with legislative
requirements
- Update Policy Register, Policy Central & Forms Central upon finalisation of
- Act as Councils principal complaints officer for Customer Complaints (including Administrative
