**Position Objective**
The Community Development Officer is responsible for strengthening community capacity, engagement,
and wellbeing across the Flinders Shire. This role supports the planning, coordination and delivery of
community programs, events, partnerships and projects that enhance social inclusion, cultural vitality,
and local resilience. Working closely with community groups, service providers, and internal
stakeholders, the officer will identify opportunities, secure funding, and foster collaborations that
contribute to the liveability and sustainability of the region.

As a representative of Council, demonstrated professionalism and a commitment to a high level of service

**Key Responsibilities**
**_Community Engagement & Development _**
- Engage with community groups, residents, and stakeholders to identify local needs, strengths, and
opportunities for social development.
- Support and build the capacity of local organisations, volunteers, and networks to deliver
community-led initiatives that align with Council’s Corporate Plan and Community Action Plans.
**_Arts and Cultural Development _**
- Develop, implement and support arts and cultural programs, events and projects that celebrate the
region’s identity, heritage, and creativity.
- Foster participation in arts and cultural activities across all demographics, with a focus on inclusivity
and accessibility.
- Collaborate with artists, schools, Indigenous groups, and cultural organisations to promote creative
expression and storytelling.
**_Program and Event Coordination _**
- Plan, deliver and evaluate community events and initiatives, including festivals, public art
installations, workshops, and exhibitions.
- Coordinate logistics, budgets, promotion and risk management for events and activities.

- Identify and pursue grant funding opportunities to support community, arts, and cultural
development.

**_Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement _**
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with government agencies, non-profits, artists, and
community stakeholders to leverage resources and expertise.
- Represent Council in community forums and working groups as required.
**_Strategic Planning and Reporting _**
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Council’s community development and
cultural strategies, ensuring alignment with the Corporate Plan and Community Action Plans.
- Monitor and report on program outcomes, community feedback, and performance indicators.
**_Communication and Promotion _**
- Promote community and cultural initiatives through a range of communication channels, including
social media, newsletters, and local media.
- Prepare clear and engaging content to highlight community stories and successes.
**_General _**
- Ensure general administration and records management requirements are met in accordance with
Council policy.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to internal and external customers, conducting
all transactions ethically and efficiently.
- Contribute positively to a supportive, team-based work environment; participate in team meetings
and training sessions as required.
- Ensure requests are acted on and reported upon in accordance with Council policy.
- Keep supervisor/manager appropriately informed on activities relevant to the role, highlighting any
issues likely to impact Council operations or public relations.
