Power & Energy

SMEC is a global provider of engineering, environmental and construction services, consolidating all aspects of Energy and Renewables Infrastructure from planning to delivery. Our expertise includes grid connection studies, substation design, policy and sector planning, carbon services, load forecasting models, and long-term generation planning using simulation and dynamic programming techniques. We have delivered stand-alone and grid-tie photovoltaic and solar thermal projects, ‘water to wire’ services on mini and micro-hydro projects, geothermal power plants and generation facilities.

The Role

We’re seeking to engage a Manager - Energy, Civil to join our Power & Energy team. In this role, you’ll provide leadership and direction to the Civil Engineering activities of the Energy market sector within ANZ. This role provides expertise and client services relating to the delivery of Civil engineering work within the ANZ Energy market sector, while playing an important management role in developing a national Energy Civil Engineering capability.

In addition to the above, the Manager - Energy, Civil ensures the operational and technical excellence and performance of the Civil Engineering team within the Energy market sector with the effect of growing the SMEC Infrastructure function through optimal people, commercial, business development, client relationship management and project performance.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Providing operational, technical and business development management of the Civil Engineering portions of the Energy market sector to support SMEC’s vision and values;
- Contributing to the management of financial targets of the Energy market sector and the achievement of the Energy market sector operational plans;
- In collaboration with the leadership, ensuring capability development and mobilisation of Energy market sector resources to support SMEC’s overall business objectives;
- Collaborating with Regional and State Managers to manage client relationships and achieve sustainable growth through targeted client relationship management and business development activity;
- Providing support to the leadership team and manage activity to transition regional based business model to a national service model;
- Effectively managing and leading a team of nominated direct reports to ensure optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development.

About You

Suitable applicants will be/have:

- Tertiary qualifications in appropriate discipline (essential)
- Post graduate qualifications in appropriate discipline (highly regarded)
- Project Management qualification (desirable)
- 10-15+ years industry experience managing the Civil aspects of Energy Projects successfully, to budget and client specifications
- Demonstrated ability and experience in managing & leading a team effectively for performance and cohesion;
- High level communication skills, including negotiating and resolving commercial, technical and people matters;
- Thorough understanding of the local external Market and skills to translate this knowledge to projects and people;
