Assistant Buyer

With a range of trusted independent brands like IGA, Foodland and Campbells/C-Store, our stores sit at the heart of their communities, providing locals with the products and homegrown produce they love most.

We are looking for an Assistant Buyer to support our Merchandise department with preparing retail and pricing strategies and providing administrative support.

The role is inclusive of Trainee Buyer duties and will be required to manage delegated categories whilst building strong relationships with suppliers and establish a viable alternative to competitors and sustain consumer loyalty to the retail offer.

What you’ll do
- Perform and coordinate administrative duties.
- Preparing competitive retail and pricing strategies.
- Build relationships with strategic customers, manufacturers and National Merchandise and National Category Managers
- Compiling reports on product performance and statistics.
- Analysis and compiling reports on promotional performance.
- Ensure National and State initiatives are executed within their delegated categories
- Maximize supplier income and deals through supplier negotiation, managing the trading relationship with suppliers and identifying new opportunities of growth
- Use of market insights and analytics to maximize sales and profit
- Negotiate with suppliers to provide successful promotional strategies in line with trading agreements to complement National strategies.
- Proactively identify and anticipate customers’ requirements, expectations and needs

What you’ll bring
- Previous experience in the merchandising or retail industry
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability in effective communication and relationship development
- Strong analytical and organisational skills
- Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
