**POSITION DESCRIPTION - INDUSTRIAL WOMEN’S OFFICER**
- Position Title- Industrial Women’s Officer- Organisation- Queensland Council of Unions- Time fraction- Full time- Salary- Starting salary range from $120,338.40 to $134,650 [Plus 15% superannuation]- Contract period- Permanent**About Queensland Unions**
The Queensland Council of Unions is the peak union body in Queensland. It is comprised of 26 affiliated unions, representing around 400,000 union members.
Our Mission Statement is “Leading Unions to achieve industrial, political and social justice for Queensland Workers”.
The QCU has an Executive of 46 Officers, 13 of whom form the Management Committee.
**Job Purpose & Reporting**
The purpose of the Industrial Women’s Officer role is to provide advice and support to the General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary in the areas of legislative reform and policy for industrial relations, work health and safety, discrimination, and related laws, in particular as they relate to women. The role will also involve development and provision of education and development programs for work with affiliated union staff and employees covering the above legal frameworks.
The Industrial Women’s Officer will report directly to the General Secretary.
**Key Responsibilities**
Working with the General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary, the position is expected to undertake the following duties
- Writing of submissions to relevant tribunals, Committees and Inquiries
- Development of written policy positions in consultation and collaboration with affiliate unions
- Preparation of and advocacy before tribunals, Committees and Inquiries
- Assistance with lobbying and negotiations with relevant employer organisations and Governments
- Professional presentations to affiliate unions and industry stakeholders about matters within scope of work
- Development and delivery of relevant education and development programs, including workshops and other skills and knowledge based training programs
**Relevant Qualifications and Experience**
**Required Knowledge and Experience**
- Previous experience as a legal, industrial and/or policy officer within the areas of industrial relations, work health and safety, discrimination, and/or work-related legal frameworks.
- Previous experience with developing and implementing workplace policies as they relate to women.
- High level skills in using relevant research databases and proficiency in use of Microsoft word, excel and powerpoint.
- Excellent research and analysis skills, including developing creative solutions to identified problems.
- High level skills in preparing and writing submissions.
- Demonstrated negotiation experience.
- Excellent advocacy skills before tribunals and other related bodies.
- High level presentation and facilitation skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to handle time sensitive tasks.

**Key Selection Criteria**
- Previous experience as a legal, industrial and/or policy officer within the areas of industrial relations, work health and safety, discrimination, and/or other work-related legal frameworks.
- Previous policy development and implementation within the field of women’s workplace rights or issues.
- Demonstrated high level research and analytical skills in the fields of work-related laws.
- Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills, including experience with successful negotiations and demonstrated advocacy skills before tribunals or in other relevant forums.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting information and providing education about work-related matters to practitioners and others in a facilitative and engaging way.
- Ability to represent the organisation in a professional capacity and to develop effective networks and relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
