The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Officer - Governance, Budget and Engagement to provide a critical role within the Stolen Generations Repatriations Unit.
This is an Aboriginal Prioritised position, a role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the Business Unit
The Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.
The Stolen Generations Reparations Unit (SGRU) was established to implement the Reparations Package to help address the trauma and suffering caused by the forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families, culture and Country. The Project Officer, Strategy, Governance and Engagement will be responsible for supporting internal business processes and systems that enable the delivery of the Reparations Package.
About the Role
As the Project Officer, you will manage all Secretariat responsibilities for the Advisory Committee, as well as provide project support to senior colleagues within the team around engagement, events and website updates as well as build relationships within the Department on behalf of the SGRU to deliver key project, policy and strategic responses for the SGRU.
This role requires strong organisation and communication skills. It will support key activities that involve working with Aboriginal people who have lived experience of trauma and requires an understanding of both the principles of cultural safety, and the gravity of this reform for impacted Aboriginal Victorians. The role also requires resilience, empathy, and adaptability and may involve dealing with material that can be challenging and distressing.

**Some of your duties will include**:

- Provide key support and secretariat services for all meetings of the Advisory Committee, including circulating agendas and meeting documents in a timely manner, ensuring meeting minutes are properly recorded and distributed, scheduling meetings and arranging facilities and performing other similar duties.
- Develop and write Committee Papers or briefings to support project delivery.
- Monitor and report on project status, participate in and facilitate project meetings and prepare a range of project documents as required

About you

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal community, society and culture and the issues impacting on these.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and/or coordinating efficient project administration systems and processes.
- Demonstrated experience supporting business and finance processes and operations or ability to rapidly acquire skills.

**Qualifications**:

- A qualification in project management, business management, public administration or a similar field would be well regarded.
