The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Project Officer to provide a critical role within the Prison Network Reconfiguration branch.
**About the Business Unit**
The Prison Network Reconfiguration Program has been established to support implementation of significant changes to the Victorian prison system including:
- The closure of Dhurringile Prison in August 2024 and decommissioning of the site;
- Opening Western Plains Correctional Centre in mid-2025;
- Decommissioning older accommodation and infrastructure across the public system;
- Opening new beds and infrastructure at a range of existing prisons, including further updates to network reconfiguration plans aligned to Bail Reform;
- Closure of Port Phillip Prison in December 2025; and
- System-wide policy and practice changes to align with the reconfigured prison network
**About the Role**
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Officer is responsible for supporting and contributing to activities relating to the implementation of the Prison Network Reconfiguration Program.
The Project Officer provides administrative support to the Prison Network Reconfiguration governance structures and Project Control Groups, including being accountable for the handling, management, and storage of sensitive information. The role works collaboratively with team members to ensure the project deliverables and timelines are aligned and reflect organisational objectives.
As a Project Officer, some of your duties will include:
- Supporting project management activities including project planning, identification, and management of risks and ensure that project deliverables align with work program and project objectives.
- Effectively responding to staff and stakeholder requests to resolve problems and to influence and inform continuous improvement in project management strategies, systems, and performance.
- Supporting the coordination of the delivery, monitoring, and ongoing evaluation of the Prison Network Reconfiguration in accordance with the program plan.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government administrative processes.
- Knowledge of project management principles, the investment and project lifecycle, and project delivery within a government context.
- Experience in performing a secretariat function at governance or other complex meetings including minute taking and collating, managing, and distributing meeting papers.
**Qualifications**
- A tertiary qualification in criminal justice, allied health, public policy, law or other relevant disciplines is desirable.
- Previous experience in the public sector, preferably in justice and/or community service-related environments.
