**What you’ll be doing**
- Direct and contribute to the creation of best practice frameworks, policies, and standards to appropriately incorporate and use data from the Wesfarmers Group in a risk aware manner, including supporting data sharing and usage principles by designing and embedding data risk controls to ensure data is protected and stakeholder expectations are met.
- Lead and support the team to develop, implement, and continually improve the practical data governance and data management capabilities, including expanding on the internal frameworks for quality, metadata, management, data sharing and use cases.
- Balance operational tasks with longer-term strategic efforts, in a growing digital business that is part of a larger Group which includes market leading and trusted established retailers.
- Collaborate with key business and delivery stakeholders to ensure governance and management requirements and controls are in place, managing expectations set by leadership and the internal customers.
- Contribute to privacy and security initiatives with business stakeholders to ensure data is protected from misuse.
- Create and lead a high-performance team, driving towards the shared business objectives.
- Accountable for the provision of trusted data governance and data management advice and guidance to Data Owners.
- Accountable for the development and implementation of data guardrails to enable internal customers to maintain delivery momentum and assess exceptions if required.
- Accountable to produce impact assessments and assurance outcomes on new and existing capabilities, to ensure control effectiveness, maturity aspirations and compliance with prevailing obligations (such as the Privacy Act and data management best practice).
- Accountable for contributing to root cause analysis of data issues and helping to identify improvements that contribute to higher quality data.
- Ensure that the creation and communication of data governance and management material (including thought leadership materials which considers strategic opportunities and problems) is of the requisite quality for internal and external partners, including all levels of technology and business teams across the OneDigital, the data governance forum and council, risk committee and other key forums.
**What you'll bring to the table**
- Demonstrable (from direct experience) understanding of data governance and data management industry frameworks (as examples but not limited to: DMBOK, APRA CPG235) and/or maturity models (DCAM, ADM) and regulatory obligations (Australian Privacy Act as an example).
- 8+ years of data governance and/or data management experience.
- Tertiary qualification.
- A strategic mindset to identify material risk issues and value creation opportunities.
- Demonstrable experience of effective strategic collaboration between functional areas such as Cyber Security, Technology Operations, Privacy, Legal and Risk Management. Ability to engage senior leadership at OneDigital and data governance leads across the Wesfarmers Group and externally.
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing data management systems, protocols, and policies.
- A strong team spirit, balanced by a healthy sense of autonomy coupled with the ability to navigate a fast paced, fluid and multi-stakeholder environment in a growing and complex business.
- Proven people leadership, creating a high performance, highly engaged team.
- Ability to manage stakeholder and internal customer expectations and communicate in a clear and effective manner.
- Strong affinity with, and interest in, new trends in data (including data governance and quality), AI, martech and advanced analytics.
- Proficiency in data management tools and technologies, such as data cataloguing tools, data quality tools, and data governance platforms.
- A detailed understanding of data regulation and their impact in relation to digital businesses, retailers and personal information, as well as data sharing arrangements and associated contractual arrangements and controls is a plus.
