**Purpose**

The Team Leader Chemistry, in conjunction with the Manager Laboratory Services, is responsible for the operation

of the chemistry laboratory, including all procedures relevant to chemical testing of water and wastewater to satisfy

NATA requirements.

The primary objectives of this position are to:

- Oversee and monitor the chemical condition of CHW’s water supplies and wastewaters to satisfy requirements

of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
- Manage the chemical analysis and reporting to external customers.
- Maintain quality systems and National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accreditation for the

Chemistry Section.
- Lead and promote a culture of high performance within the Chemistry Team to deliver timely and high-quality

results to customers.
- Liaise with customers and stakeholders.

**Key Duties/Responsibilities**
- In consultation with senior laboratory staff, monthly planning for the collection and analysis of samples from

water treatment plants, distribution system, reservoirs, and wastewater treatment plants.
- Maintenance of a quality assurance programme covering all aspects of the chemistry laboratory operations.
- Daily coordination of work schedule and responsible for output of Chemistry Team.
- Interpretation and advice on laboratory results and data.
- Accurate registration of samples, entry of sample results and preparation of laboratory reports.
- Coordination of the chemistry section calibration schedule.
- Acceptance/ rejection of external samples within the chemistry laboratory’s criteria and capabilities.
- Provide training for new employees within the chemistry laboratory.
- Ordering of consumable products for laboratory use (chemicals, glassware etc)
- Maintain the laboratory in a safe clean condition.
- Actively contribute expertise to the creation and continual improvement of laboratory processes, templates,

and lab management practices.
- Be autonomous and self-motivated.
- Prepare budgets and written reports as required.
- Foster a ‘safety first’ culture that supports wellbeing and CHW’s aspiration of ‘zero harm’.

- Ensures compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and CHW

policies and procedures.
- Accountable for effectively planning and organising workload to meet business requirements.
- Provide people leadership, goal setting and development oversight within the Laboratory Services team.
- Accountable for ensuring team risks and opportunities are actively managed within CHW’s risk and

compliance frameworks.
