**Position Information**:
Lurnea High School is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the city of Liverpool. The school serves a diverse community of learners with 84% of students having a language background other than English (LBOTE) and of that number 75% require EAL/D (English an additional language or dialect) support. ?There are 729 students including 35 students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.??

The school has a Support Unit of 109 placements for students with mild, moderate intellectual delays and autism. The school also has an Intensive English Centre (IEC) catering for the English language learning needs of newly arrived migrant and refugee students (numbering between 85- 120 annually).??

The provision of rich, accessible, flexible and creative learning experiences lies at the heart of the ways students and staff thrive and learn at Lurnea High School through a growth mindset of increasing educational attainment for every student every year.??

Lurnea HS works in partnership with parents, families and the wider community to extend learning beyond the school gates to ensure that students are connected to resources and opportunities that promote resilience and inspire lifelong learning.??

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage a large regional resource hosted by a mainstream high school setting; including provisions that support the education and English language learning needs of students who are new to Australia, to enable their equitable participation at school.

2. High level understanding of the complex needs of students, including students from refugee backgrounds and international students; and the leadership skills required to nurture a learning environment where they thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

3. Demonstrated capacity to establish effective partnerships with colleagues, parents and the broader community to engage students newly arrived in the country to fully participate in schooling and independently pursue further education, training and/or employment.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage the operational needs of a large regional resource, including the related human resource and fiscal management, autonomous enrolment processes, and liaison with DoE stakeholders including DE International and Multicultural Education Team.

5. Demonstrated ability to contribute to an executive team and operate at a whole school level to effectively implement the vision for the school as articulated in the strategic improvement plan as it relates to the specific priorities relevant to the Intensive English Centre.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
