**Position Objectives**:
This position forms part of Mid Murray Council’s Mannum based Tourism and Cruise Operations
Team, and is responsible for the following:

- To operate and maintain the standards for a Nationally Accredited Visitor Information Centre.
- Provide effective tourism promotional and marketing activity for the Mid Murray Council region,

including the Mannum Dock Discovery Centre, PS Marion, PW Mayflower and Arnold Gallery.
- Coordinate the operation / activities of the Mannum Visitor Information Centre, Mannum Dock

Discovery Centre, PS Marion cruising, PW Mayflower cruising, Mannum Markets and Arnold
Gallery.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, induction, development and supervision of Volunteers

within the Tourism Team.
- Ensure compliance with current and future Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)

requirements.
- Assist to coordinate the maintenance requirements for Council’s fleet of heritage vessels,

tender boats, associated trailers, small plant and equipment.
- Assist with the operations of the Mid Murray Heritage & Maritime Committee (MMH&MC).

**Key Responsibilities**:
Visitor Servicing:

- To maintain National Tourism Accreditation standards at the Mannum Visitor Information

Centre and meet the audit requirements for South Australian Accredited VICs as determined
by the South Australian Tourism Commission, Tourism Industry Council of SA, and SA Visitor
Information Centre Network.
- Contribute to local economic and tourism development through initiatives that increase

spending, length of stay and repeat visitation.
- Provision of quality customer service and effective visitor information services to meet the

needs of all visitors to the district.

Visitor Servicing Cont’d:

- Meet accountabilities for point of sale, stock control, cash management, invoicing, petty cash,

reconciliation and banking.
- Assist in the selection of souvenirs and other merchandise.
- Promote the Mannum Dock Discovery Centre and Council’s heritage vessel cruising, whilst

ensuring the continued promotion of similar product.
- Ensure the collection, compilation and reporting of visitor statistics.
- Attendance at tourism conferences or training opportunities, as required.

Volunteer Engagement:

- Assist in the recruitment, selection, induction, development and supervision of Volunteers

within the tourism team.
- Seek feedback and review Tourism Team Volunteer performance during probationary periods.
- To identify, recommend and conduct training to meet skill requirements for Tourism

Volunteers.
- To accurately record and upload Tourism Volunteer timesheets, induction paperwork and

safety documentation, as required.
- Assist in promoting a safe workplace for Volunteers across the organisation.
- Record accident data, assist with investigations and follow up actions within the Tourism

Team.
- Communicate with Volunteers and present their opinions to Management.

Cruise Operations:

- Arrange and facilitate vessel cruises, including preparation of the boat, promotion, chartering,

ticketing, bookings, and crew rostering.
- Assist in the development of cruise schedules, running sheets, updating crew manuals and

safety management systems, as required.
Mannum Dock Discovery Centre, Arnold Gallery and Markets:

- Create and facilitate events, activities and programmes to be undertaken at the Mannum Dock

Discovery Centre, including monthly markets and the biennial All Steamed Up Festival.
- Ensure displays, storytelling and wayfinding of the Mannum Dock Discovery Centre are

interactive, modern, well-maintained, and rotated to provide on-going interest and repeat
visitation.
- Ensure the Museum collections are catalogued and archival records are maintained in

appropriate formats for public research.

Marketing and Promotion:

- Liaise with the Mid Murray Council Tourism Manager, Murray River Lakes and Coorong

Tourism Alliance, MMH&MC, Mannum Progress Association, and other relevant groups, to
support the promotion and marketing of tourism and events.
- Work collaboratively with the broader Tourism Team and Mid Murray Council staff to provide

effective tourism promotional and marketing activity for the whole of the Mid Murray Council
region.
Vessel and Small Plant Maintenance Coordination Assistance:

- Derive and implement Asset Maintenance Plans for the PS Marion, PS Canally,

PW Mayflower, tender boats, associated trailers, and small plant and equipment.
