**STUD HAND - NORTHWOOD PARK**

We have multiple exciting opportunities for fulltime permanent Stud Hands at our Northwood Park operation near Seymour, Victoria. Stud Hands are responsible for the routine care and welfare of resident bloodstock including broodmares, foals, weanlings, yearlings and spelling racehorses. Stud staff provide general care including mucking out, feeding, grooming, and assisting with the treatment of horses, in addition to general upkeep and cleaning activities.

**Reporting to the Broodmare Manager and/or Spelling and Yearling Manager, the Stud Hand will be responsible for the general wellbeing and care of bloodstock on the farm which includes**:

- Carry out daily stud tasks and activities such as feeding, checking stock, mucking out, movements and general cleaning and upkeep.
- Routine health checks, monitoring basic health and welfare of horses, recognising signs of injury and/or signs of an unhealthy horse reporting concerns.
- Under direction, provide assistance in the treatment of equine injury and disease.
- Provide assistance with teasing process and reproductive veterinary examinations.
- Provide assistance with the foaling process as required including pre
- and post-foaling procedures.
- Preparation of horses for; inspections, examinations, treatments, procedures, and movements.

**Criteria**:

- Sound horse handling skills, with experience and confidence handling thoroughbreds of different classes, ages and temperaments.
- Practical understanding of horse health care and welfare requirements.
- Understanding of thoroughbred breeding industry and operations.
- Current drivers licence with a preparedness to work out of hours and weekends.
