**The Position***

**Position Title**: Aboriginal Health Promotion Officer
- **Classification**: Community Development Worker
- **Salary per hour (exc. super)**: Dependent upon qualifications
- **Hours per fortnight**: 32
- **Employment Status**: Part Time (fixed contract)
- **Other requirements**: COVID-19 Vaccination

**Role Description**
- The Aboriginal Health Promotion Officer will focus on providing a culturally safe journey for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through our health service, with a specific focus on cancer patients. The purpose of this position is to improve access and equity to health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

**The Team**
- The Community and Public Health Services Division has a primary focus on improving the health outcomes of the communities in our region. With a range of local and regional programs supporting place-based health promotion, prevention, care and support, they work collaboratively with other Divisions and regional partnerships and networks to support quality outcomes. The Division has a strong leadership role in the Loddon Mallee Region and is committed to ensuring processes are in place to deliver on our Division.

**Selection Criteria**
- Essential : Must identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
- Essential : Relevant qualifications to meet the requirements of the position such as (but not limited to) Health Promotion, Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, Community Development, Aboriginal Health, Allied Health.
- Essential : Experience in working with community preferably in a health care setting or alike is highly desirable.
- Essential : A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, society and kinship networks in addition to being accepted by the Aboriginal community.
- Essential : Ability to work as part of a team to collaborate for the best possible outcomes for patients. Including confidence to liaise effectively with doctors, nurses, specialists and allied health professionals.
- Essential : Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills including the capacity to represent the needs of patients and/or staff at various forums/committees.
- Essential : Excellent knowledge of how to operate computer systems and electronic data entry/reporting.
- Essential : Strong organisational skills including the ability to use initiative, set priorities and to plan and act to achieve desired outcomes within specific timeframes.
