Group description
The Priority Populations and Capability Group (PPCG) is responsible for the collection, analysis and
reporting of maternal and perinatal data, veterans’ data, as well as the ongoing enhancement of
these collections. The PPCG also provides the organisation with specialist support and technical
training.
Unit description
The Specialist Capability Unit (SCU) is responsible for providing centralised support and developing
the organisations skill in critical capabilities, including data processing, data analysis, machine
learning, geospatial, statistical, and methodological analysis.
SCU is a client focused, collaborative team who work closely together with a common goal and
drive to assist business areas deliver the best outcomes possible.
Position Summary
**APS6 Geospatial Support Officer, Specialist Capability Unit**
The Priority Populations and Capability Group (PPCG) is currently seeking an experienced Geospatial
Support Officer to assist AIHW analysts in working with geospatial information and data. This
position requires technical skills and expertise in Esri software, as well as a strong drive to work
with a diverse range of people.
As a Geospatial Project Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting various corporate projects
by providing geospatial analysis and expertise. You will work closely with different project units to
ensure the effective use of geospatial data in strategic planning, resource allocation, and
performance monitoring. This position requires strong technical skills in geospatial technologies
and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organisation.
This role will expose you to a wide range of health and welfare-related topics that the AIHW collects
data on, analyses, and disseminates to the public, making it perfect for someone who loves learning
about insights and evidence gained from data. Your primary responsibility will be to champion
geospatial initiatives for the organisation and provide technical support and assistance. This will
involve a range of activities such as advising on best practices for geospatial analysis, developing
interactive data visualisations, providing one-on-one support and training, and developing user
guides and training material
