The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Manager, Assessments to provide a critical role at Assessments, Applications and Panel Secretariat, Post Sentence Branch
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult corrections system and manages 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees three privately operated prisons. It ensures prisoners are safely and securely contained and aims to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Offender Services Division in Corrections Victoria is responsible for providing best practice interventions which aim to reduce the risk of reoffending including quality assurance systems for risk assessment and case management, offending behaviour programs, and transition and reintegration supports. The Offender Services Division has responsibility for the post-sentence supervision scheme including management of post sentence residential facilities and residential treatment facilities.
About the Role
The Manager, Assessments is responsible for ensuring that all offenders convicted of a relevant offence are assessed to determine eligibility for supervision pursuant to the legislation and that recommendations to the Secretary are based on thorough consideration of appropriate information by the Detention and Supervision Review Board (DSORB). The position has people management responsibilities and requires highly developed written communication, problem solving and strategic planning skills.

**Some of your duties will include**:

- Manage the overall process for identification of eligible offenders pursuant to the legislation.
- Manage and monitor a team to ensure eligible offenders are assessed appropriately and within defined timeframes, approving assessment pathways and ensuring reports are quality checked.
- Manage the provision of appropriate information to qualified external assessors and contractors, including coordination of assessment interviews under the legislation.

About you

**To be successful in this role, you will have**:

- Knowledge of the Serious Offenders Act 2018.
- Demonstrated experience and sound judgement in managing service delivery within a highly complex area, preferably within a complex legislative framework.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of staff and ability to provide feedback to staff to improve performance.
- Experience in the management of high-risk offenders, and/or experience in working in a correctional environment, would be an advantage.

**Qualifications**:
A relevant tertiary qualification is desirable, but not mandatory.
