**Position Purpose**
Located in the Student and Library Services Directorate, the New Student Transition Officer
will undertake activities to support the transition of students to Murdoch. This role, under the
direction of the Orientation and Student Experience Coordinator, will work collaboratively with
a range of stakeholders to develop and deliver a wide range of nurture and transition activities
to achieve the University’s conversion and retention objectives.

The Student Journey Services portfolio is responsible for activity, engagement, and support
conversion to acceptance, enrolment, and the orientation and the ongoing provision of
services and activity to maximise retention to degree completion.

**Key Responsibilities / Duties
**1. Under the direction of the Orientation and Student Experience Coordinator,
develop and implement activities to nurture and convert students from offer to
acceptance, and build new students’ capability and competency to successfully
commence study in degree programs.
2. Develop and implement online and on-campus pre Orientation and Orientation
activities to prepare new students for study.
3. In collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Office, support the
development of a communications schedule that aligns with key stages in the student
journey.
4. Contribute to the planning and coordination of post orientation activities that support
students in their first semester of study.
5. Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders to develop a
coordinated and joined up approach to student transition.
6. Contribute to the running of the Student Orientation Ambassador program through the
recruitment of appropriate current students, mentoring these students, and
supervising their participation in targeted transition activities for new students.
7. Conduct student surveys and focus groups, and analyse results to inform a continuous
improvement cycle for successfully preparing and onboarding students.
8. Other duties as required.
**Selection Criteria**
1. A degree with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of
relevant experience and/or education/training.
2. Highly effective communication, and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to
create, maintain and enhance relationships with students staff and other
stakeholders.
3. Previous experience in, or an understanding of the needs and competencies required
to enable successful transition to University study for new students from a range of
educational backgrounds.
4. Proven experience in developing and implementing highly successful events.
5. Experience in developing successful informational resources.
6. Experience in developing and undertaking surveys and collating results.
7. Demonstrated high level of organisational, time and workload management skills,
including the ability to prioritise workload to meet strict deadlines, and to use
initiative.
8. Ability to work in a team environment and flexibility to undertake a diverse range of
tasks with mínimal supervision.
