**Position Purpose**
To provide technical services and be responsible for the organization of nominated laboratory
sessions, in the discipline of Histology / Histopathology, within the undergraduate practical
classes in Veterinary Medicine and Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences.

**About the Work Area**
The Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences (Laboratory Medicine) technical group has the
responsibility for operating and maintaining undergraduate teaching labs along with preparing,
developing, designing, and constructing experiments. Whether teaching, research, or external
engagement activities the group manages the technical requirements that service the needs of
the University community.

Team Leader
Technical Officer - Histopathology
**Key Responsibilities/Duties
**1. Manage and organise the delivery of laboratory classes for Histology / Histopathology units in
Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Laboratory Science courses.
2. Manage inventory and equipment requirements for Histology / Histopathology units in
Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Laboratory Science courses.
3. Oversight, delegation, and involvement in the practical delivery of teaching units including
samples, specimen collections and equipment.
4. Contribute and support other practical teaching units within your skill set as requested in
Laboratory Medicine and Clinical Laboratory Science courses (including but not limited to
Biochemistry and Haematology.
5. Collaborate with academic staff and unit coordinators on design of classes, keeping up with
relevant tertiary teaching and learning strategies
6. Conduct laboratory-based procedures, tests, and assays for teaching.
7. Under broad direction manage the budget for Histology/ Histopathology teaching units.
8. Establish and maintain good relations with external stakeholder, including industry
collaborations.
9. Manage, prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for undergraduate Laboratory
Medicine (and associated programs) laboratory operations.
10. Support and promote compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and
procedures, including equity and health & safety.
11. Maintain a safe working environment by following appropriate Occupational Health and Safety
legislation, organise facility and equipment maintenance, and take appropriate actions when
safety issues are raised in the workplace
12. Carry out, and assist with, other duties as required

**Selection Criteria**
**Essential**
1. A tertiary degree in Laboratory Medicine with 2 years of subsequent relevant experience or
an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
2. Demonstrated understanding of the theoretical principles and techniques used in diagnostic
Histopathology and at least one other discipline, specifically, Haematology, Biochemistry,
and/or Microbiology.
3. Provide technical and procedural advice and expertise to academic staff and students within
the discipline of Histology and Histopathology
4. Demonstrate ability to maintain budgets, complete purchase order requirements for
consumables and minor equipment, within timeframes and update laboratory procedures and
quality control teaching techniques as required.
